JC's British & 4x4 - Heritage & Outfitting
I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with JC's British 4x4 was disappointing enough that I feel obligated to share it. I spent a significant amount of money with this shop over multiple repairs on my Land Rover. Unfortunately, after their work was completed, I experienced a number of issues, including a leaking transmission that they had replaced, a leaking gearbox, an overheating cooling system that they had worked on, and a coolant temperature sensor that was not functioning properly. Also, they told me a can of bears pray exploded in the truck, without proper documentation. Because of this, the insurance company failed to cover any costs associated with the bear spray which tore up the interior of my car. What was most frustrating was the way these issues were handled. When I raised concerns, I repeatedly felt like the responsibility was being shifted elsewhere rather than acknowledging the possibility that the problems could be related to the work they performed. At one point, I was told to simply "drive it until you can't anymore," which was not the level of service or support I expected after investing so much money in repairs. I also had a major issue with their warranty policy. One warranty-covered component was installed in early 2024, but my truck remained at their shop for more than four additional months while they addressed other issues. When the original repair later failed, I was told it was no longer covered because the warranty period began when the work was completed—not when I actually got the vehicle back and was able to use it. In my opinion, a warranty should begin when the customer takes possession of the vehicle, not while it is still sitting in the shop awaiting other repairs. To make matters worse, when I asked them to diagnose the issue to determine whether it qualified for warranty coverage, I was told I would be charged for the diagnostic work regardless. That left me feeling like the burden was entirely on the customer. Since then, I have taken the truck to other shops and had a completely different experience. The level of communication, transparency, customer service, and pricing has been noticeably better. Personally, I've had much better experiences with Roadside Werx. Based on my experience, I would recommend that Land Rover owners carefully consider their options before trusting JC's British 4x4 with major repairs. I felt like I was constantly having to fight for fair treatment rather than being supported as a long-term customer.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, Zachary. We're genuinely sorry to hear that you left feeling unsupported. That is never the outcome we want for any customer, especially one who entrusted us with multiple major repairs over an extended period. Because many of the events described occurred in 2024, we took the time to review the repair orders, notes, emails, and text communications associated with your vehicle before responding. While we respect your perspective, our records reflect some important context that is not included in the review. One example is the transmission concern. The transmission installed in your Defender was customer-supplied, and customer-supplied parts are not eligible for our standard parts and labor warranty coverage. Even so, when concerns were reported, we offered to inspect the vehicle and determine whether any issue was related to our workmanship, the supplied component, or another source. We also recognize that warranty discussions and follow-up concerns can be frustrating, particularly after a significant investment in an older vehicle. Even when policies are communicated correctly, what matters most is whether a customer feels heard, and it is clear from your review that we fell short in that regard. The statement that you were told to "drive it until you can't anymore" is particularly concerning to us, as it does not reflect the standards we strive to uphold. We would welcome the opportunity to better understand where that impression came from and discuss your experience directly. We appreciate the opportunity we had to work on your Defender and sincerely wish you the best moving forward. — Jeff & the JC's British & 4x4 Heritage Center team
